Up To Date With Ethan Callender Entry 10: Rig Deeper

The transition to what will likely be a Biden-led administration beginning January 20th has been rocky, with resistance from within the Trump team and their Republican allies being unusually high. There’s even been at least one example of outright denial that the Trump Train has derailed on a cliffside and fallen into the ocean. This refusal to hand over power is likely based on recent baseless accusations from the President. These suggest that the Democrats engaged in massive enough voter fraud to have manipulated the results in their favor in enough states to win the Electoral College. To dispel that argument before I move any further, the Dems are a massive political party with oodles of power at their disposal. They would’ve at least gotten better results from an electoral rigging than having Senators Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham re-elected, losing a few seats in the House (though their majority has been kept), and leaving the Senate to two runoff races in the historically-red state of Georgia.

That hasn’t stopped President Trump from claiming that fraud occurred in this election, however. Considering that he is no stranger to poorly-thought-out schemes turning into comical, yet dangerous, scandals, this should come as no surprise. From the Ukraine mess that led to his impeachment (but not removal) to the many, many conflicts of interest, Trump has shown himself as opportunistic, at best. How does he evade the consequences of his now-very-public criminality? Simply put, he’s trying to maintain the Presidency so he doesn’t end up in a New York state penitentiary. You see, as President, he dropped the ball in terms of the ethical and legal responsibilities of the office. Now, he may soon have to worry about dropping the soap, yet that was entirely expected of him by many people. What wasn’t expected right away, however, was him contesting the election.

To attempt to contest the election, Trump had to take his challenges to state courts, and this has not gone well so far. In fact, according to USA Today, whose article I have linked, only two minor victories have been delivered to the President and the GOP thus far despite dozens of suits being filed. On top of that, many more will likely not work out in the Trump campaign’s favor. In short, Trump’s screwed.

Then, there’s Rudy Giuliani, the living definition of putting ten pounds of s*** in a five-pound bag. He has a reputation for being completely unhinged these days, a fact easily exploited in the newest Borat movie. Mind you, this is fifteen years after most people caught on to that particular joke. This, needless to say, is not helping the court arguments. For example, I am going to paraphrase the definition of opacity according to Merriam-Webster. Opacity is a measurement of how little light passes through an object. Something opaque can’t be seen through like a transparent window can. Rudy’s definition was basically that it meant something can be seen and seen openly. This is so wrong; if something can be seen through and/or seen openly, it is transparent. I never thought before this that I’d need an elementary dictionary to correct the personal lawyer of the President of the United States. The PBS article I linked to above describes him as “rusty,” pointing out that he hasn’t argued a case in three decades. If that was the case, I wonder if Lionel Hutz, the listless lawyer from the early years of The Simpsons, would have been a better choice.

In short, I’d call Trump’s efforts to manipulate the results of the election to give him the win half-baked, as well as dangerous to American democracy.  These efforts don’t prove a f****** thing in regards to election fraud. They do prove, however, that Giuliani is a total clown and Trump is what happens when a man’s ego dictates literally every one of his thoughts. Idiocy is a weird thing sometimes, in that it can end what it started. This may lead people like Trump to fail in their attempts to hold on to their undeserved power. Next time, we may not be so lucky.
